Protests erupt outside NEA over Kulman Ghising’s removal

1 year agoAdmin

Kathmandu, March 26

Protests continued in Kathmandu today against the government’s decision to remove Kulman Ghising from his position as Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). A group of men and women gathered outside the NEA central office, voicing their opposition to Ghising’s dismissal.

The government had removed him on March 24, citing dissatisfaction with his performance, and appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya as his replacement. The decision has sparked widespread backlash, both in parliament and on the streets. Opposition parties obstructed sessions of both the National Assembly and the House of Representatives today in protest.

In the afternoon, a group of demonstrators marched to the NEA office, chanting slogans against the government. Several protesters were detained by police. Security has been heightened in and around the NEA office and at key locations across Kathmandu since yesterday in anticipation of further demonstrations.
